Nicotinamide mononucleotide, abbreviated NMN, is a naturally occurring nucleotide found in cells. Its structure combines a nicotinamide ring, a ribose sugar, and a phosphate group. As an intermediate in the NAD+ salvage pathway, NMN is converted to nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, a coenzyme central to cellular redox reactions. NAD+ also serves as a substrate for enzymes involved in DNA repair, stress responses, and metabolic regulation. The compound is therefore part of normal cellular biochemistry rather than an exclusively synthetic molecule.
Two enzymatic steps define the canonical route from nicotinamide to NAD+. Nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase, known as NAMPT, produces NMN from nicotinamide and phosphoribosyl pyrophosphate. NMN adenylyltransferases, or NMNAT enzymes, then couple NMN with ATP to form NAD+. Whether intact NMN crosses cell membranes efficiently remains an active area of investigation; some studies propose direct transport, while others emphasize extracellular dephosphorylation to nicotinamide riboside followed by uptake. The relative contribution of each route likely depends on cell type, tissue, and experimental conditions.
Trace amounts of NMN have been reported in certain plant foods, including edamame, avocado, broccoli, cucumber, and cabbage. Reported concentrations vary widely because analytical methods differ and food matrices complicate extraction. Endogenous production in cells is generally considered more quantitatively important than dietary intake, though precise human turnover rates are difficult to establish. Commercial NMN for research or consumer products is commonly made through enzymatic synthesis or chemical phosphorylation routes. Regulatory classification differs by country; in some jurisdictions NMN is sold as a supplement, while in others it is treated as a novel food ingredient or restricted substance.
In the salvage pathway, NMN is generated from nicotinamide and 5-phosphoribosyl-1-pyrophosphate by the enzyme nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase. A second route produces NMN from nicotinamide riboside through phosphorylation by nicotinamide riboside kinases. NMN is then converted to NAD+ by nicotinamide mononucleotide adenylyltransferases, often called NMNAT enzymes. This stepwise route allows cells to recycle nicotinamide and maintain NAD+ levels under changing metabolic conditions. The relative contribution of each route varies by tissue, species, and physiological state, and it remains an active area of research.
Research on NMN has expanded because NAD+ concentrations decline with age in some tissues and because NAD+ participates in energy metabolism, DNA repair, and signaling. Animal studies have reported changes in NAD+ levels after NMN administration, but human data are more limited and often focus on safety, pharmacokinetics, and biomarker changes. Questions remain about oral absorption, tissue distribution, and whether changes in blood NAD+ reflect changes inside specific organs. NMN is not an approved drug, and claims about its clinical effects should be distinguished from established biochemical findings.
Nicotinamide mononucleotide, abbreviated NMN, is a naturally occurring nucleotide. Its structure combines a nicotinamide ring, a ribose sugar, and a phosphate group. The compound exists in cells as an intermediate in the production of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, a central redox cofactor. NMN is distinct from nicotinamide riboside, another related pyridine nucleotide, although the two compounds can converge in metabolic pathways. Its chemical formula is C11H15N2O8P, and it carries a net negative charge at physiological pH.

NMN is present in small amounts in some foods, including certain vegetables, fruits, and animal products, but food content varies widely and is not well standardized. In laboratory research, NMN is used as a tool compound to study NAD+ metabolism, mitochondrial function, and cellular stress responses. Animal studies have reported changes in NAD+ levels and various physiological measures after NMN administration, but species differences and study designs limit direct extrapolation to humans. Human trials have largely focused on safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics, with fewer studies examining clinical endpoints.
Nicotinamide mononucleotide, commonly abbreviated NMN, is a naturally occurring nucleotide. Its structure consists of a nicotinamide ring attached to a ribose sugar that carries a phosphate group. The molecular formula is C11H15N2O8P, and the molar mass is about 334.22 grams per mole. In cells, NMN is an intermediate in the salvage pathway that recycles nicotinamide to maintain NAD+ levels. It is not the same compound as NAD+, although it is a direct precursor in one enzymatic step.
Inside cells, the enzyme nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase, or NAMPT, converts nicotinamide and a ribose-phosphate donor into NMN. A second enzyme, NMN adenylyltransferase, then converts NMN into NAD+. NAD+ participates in redox reactions and serves as a substrate for signaling enzymes such as sirtuins, PARPs, and CD38. Because NAD+ levels tend to decline with age in many organisms, NMN has drawn interest as a possible way to influence that decline. Whether oral NMN reliably raises NAD+ in human tissues, and whether any such change modifies disease risk, remain open research questions.
Small amounts of NMN occur in some foods, including certain vegetables, fruits, and animal products, though the quantities are generally low and variable. Human cells also synthesize NMN internally from nicotinamide and other precursors. Research interest increased after studies examined whether raising NAD+ levels affects metabolism and aging-related pathways in animals. Evidence in humans remains limited and mixed for many outcomes, and questions about effective absorption, tissue delivery, and long-term effects are still open. Regulatory status differs by country, with some markets treating NMN as a supplement ingredient and others restricting its sale.
Nicotinamide mononucleotide, usually shortened to NMN, is a naturally occurring nucleotide. Its structure consists of a nicotinamide base linked to a ribose sugar that carries a phosphate group. In cells, NMN serves as an intermediate in the salvage pathway that produces nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, or NAD+. Because NAD+ participates in many oxidation-reduction reactions, NMN sits near central metabolic processes. The compound is not a drug in most jurisdictions and is discussed mainly in biochemistry and nutrition research.
=== Nutrition, food, and drink === Diet has little influence on the body's detoxification, and there is no evidence that detoxification diets rid the body of toxins. Toxins are metabolized and removed from the bloodstream by the liver and kidneys, and they are primarily removed from the body in urine and bile (excreted with the feces). Drinking milk or consuming other dairy products does not increase mucus production. As a result, they do not need to be avoided by those with the flu or cold congestion. However, milk and saliva in one's mouth mix to create a thick liquid that can briefly coat the mouth and throat. The sensation that lingers may be mistaken for increased phlegm. Drinking eight glasses (2–3 liters) of water a day is not needed to maintain health. The amount of water needed varies by person, weight, diet, activity level, clothing, and the ambient temperature and humidity. Water requirements can be met from liquids such as juices, tea, milk, soups, etc., and from foods including fruits and vegetables. Drinking coffee and other caffeinated beverages does not cause dehydration for regular drinkers, although it can for occasional drinkers. Eating disorders do not exclusively affect women; women are merely more likely than men to suffer from eating disorders. Neither spicy food nor coffee has a significant effect on the development of peptic ulcers. Sugar does not cause clinical hyperactivity in children.
==== Hardware wallets ==== A hardware "wallet" is a small and portable computer peripheral that signs transactions as requested by the user. These devices store private keys and carry out signing and encryption internally, and do not share any sensitive information with the host computer except already signed (and thus unalterable) transactions. Because hardware wallets never expose their private keys, even computers that may be compromised by malware do not have a vector to access or steal them. The user sets a passcode when setting up a hardware signer. As hardware signers are tamper-resistant, without the passcode the assets cannot be accessed.
=== Albania === The 2011 Albanian opposition demonstrations were a series of anti-government protests in cities around Albania following 18 months of political conflict over alleged electoral fraud by the opposition. Demonstrations were called for by parliamentary opposition parties, which include the Socialist Party and the Unity for Human Rights Party. The public outcry resulted in the resignation of the deputy prime minister. On 21 January, a protest in Tirana led to the killings of three demonstrators by the Republican Guard during a rally in front of Prime Minister Sali Berisha office, while fourth person died several days later. Parliamentary elections were held in Albania on 23 June 2013. The result was a victory for the Alliance for a European Albania led by the Socialist Party and its leader, Edi Rama. Incumbent prime minister Sali Berisha of the Democratic Party-led Alliance for Employment, Prosperity and Integration conceded defeat on 26 June, widely viewed as a sign of growing democratic maturity in Albania. The 2017 Albanian opposition protests were a series of anti-government protests, largely in Tirana, which centered around government corruption, the illicit drug situation in Albania, fear of electoral fraud in the parliamentary elections, and alleged manipulation of the voting process by the Socialist government. They were followed by the 2019 protests calling for the cancellation of the 2019 Albanian local elections, fresh elections, resignation of prime minister Edi Rama and his entire cabinet and the installation of a new technocrat government.
Activated protein C–protein C inhibitor (APC-PCI) is a complex of activated protein C (APC) and protein C inhibitor (PCI). It has been measured in coagulation testing to evaluate coagulation, thrombosis, and other cardiovascular complications. It is a marker of thrombin generation and indicates hypercoagulability or presence of thrombosis. Activated Protein C is a vitamin K-dependent serine protease that cleaves and inactivates Factor Va and Factor VIIIa, thus acting as an anticoagulant. Protein C Inhibitor is a 54-kilodalton glycoprotein of the serpin superfamily. Like other serpins, upon cleavage by PC, PCI undergoes a dramatic conformational rearrangement resulting in a stable covalent bond between the two proteins. The resulting PC-PCI protein dimer lacks enzyme activity and is permanently inactivated, an example of suicide inhibition. Formation of this complex is one of the major means of regulation of protein C activity, so that pro-coagulation and anticoagulant activities are kept in balance.

The primary emissions of 131I decay are thus electrons with a maximal energy of 606 keV and gammas of 364 keV. Beta decay also produces an antineutrino, which carries off variable amounts of the energy. The electrons, due to their high mean energy (190 keV, with a typical beta-decay spectrum) have a tissue penetration of 0.6 to 2 mm.
The Rhodesians of the Cape Town Highlanders patrolled nightly around the village of Casigno for the next three months. Some of the tank crews, including the Rhodesians of the Special Service Battalion, were temporarily reassigned to infantry duties to assist in these patrols. Many of the Rhodesians had never seen snow before, but on the whole they adapted well, taking up winter sports such as skiing during time off duty. The Rhodesians of the Special Service Battalion received new, more heavily armed tanks in November–December 1944. In February 1945 the 6th Division was relieved by the American 1st Armoured Division and moved to Lucca, 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) north of Pisa, for rest and reorganisation. The Rhodesian Anti-Tank Battery was refitted with M10 tank destroyers. The Spitfires of No. 237 Squadron, meanwhile, took part in assaults on German transport in the Po Valley around Parma and Modena.
=== Food labeling === For US food and dietary supplement labeling purposes, the amount in a serving is expressed as a percent of daily value. For vitamin E labeling purposes 100% of the daily value was 30 international units (IUs), but as of May 2016, it was revised to 15 mg "as alpha-tocopherol" to bring it into agreement with the RDA. A table of the old and new adult daily values is provided at Reference Daily Intake. European Union regulations require that labels declare energy, protein, fat, saturated fat, carbohydrates, sugars, and salt. Voluntary nutrients may be shown if present in significant amounts. Instead of daily values, amounts are shown as percent of reference intakes (RIs). For vitamin E, 100% RI was set at 12 mg in 2011.

The bioavailability of spironolactone when taken by mouth is 60 to 90%. The bioavailability of spironolactone and its metabolites increases significantly (+22–95% increases in levels) when spironolactone is taken with food, although it is uncertain whether this further increases the therapeutic effects of the medication. The increase in bioavailability is thought to be due to promotion of the gastric dissolution and absorption of spironolactone, as well as due to a decrease of the first-pass metabolism. The relationship between a single dose of spironolactone and plasma levels of canrenone, a major active metabolite of spironolactone, has been found to be linear across a dose range of 25 to 200 mg spironolactone. Steady-state concentrations of spironolactone are achieved within 8 to 10 days of treatment initiation. Little or no systemic absorption has been observed with topical spironolactone.

== Archaeology and paleontology == In archaeology, the Maillard process occurs when bodies are preserved in peat bogs. The acidic peat environment causes a tanning or browning of skin tones and can turn hair to a red or ginger tone. The chemical mechanism is the same as in the browning of food, but it develops slowly over time due to the acidic action on the bog body. It is typically seen on Iron Age bodies and is the result of the interaction of anaerobic, acidic, and cold (typically 4 °C (39 °F)) sphagnum acid on the polysaccharides. The Maillard reaction also contributes to the preservation of paleofeces.
== Principle == Capillary electrochromatography (CEC) combines the principles used in HPLC and CE. The mobile phase is driven across the chromatographic bed using electroosmosis instead of pressure (as in HPLC). Electroosmosis is the motion of liquid induced by an applied potential across a porous material, capillary tube, membrane or any other fluid conduit. Electroosmotic flow is caused by the Coulomb force induced by an electric field on net mobile electric charge in a solution. Under alkaline conditions, the surface silanol groups of the fused silica will become ionised leading to a negatively charged surface. This surface will have a layer of positively charged ions in close proximity which are relatively immobilised. This layer of ions is called the Stern layer. The thickness of the double layer is given by the formula:
is in g/mol. However, this method can be used, only when the gas pressure is low (of the order of few mbar). At higher pressures (tens of millibars or more), pressure or collisional broadening becomes important and the lineshape is no longer a function of temperature alone.

In addition to their use in livestock feed, soybean products are widely used for human consumption. Common soybean products include soy sauce, soy milk, tofu, soy meal, soy flour, textured vegetable protein (TVP), soy curls, tempeh, soy lecithin, iru and soybean oil. Soybeans may also be eaten with minimal processing, for example, in the Japanese food edamame (枝豆, edamame), in which immature soybeans are boiled whole in their pods and served with salt.

NMN is nicotinamide mononucleotide, a nucleotide intermediate in NAD+ metabolism. It occurs naturally in cells and can also be produced synthetically for research or commercial use. Its name reflects its composition: nicotinamide, ribose, and a phosphate group.
NMN is a direct precursor in the NAD+ salvage pathway. NMNAT enzymes convert NMN and ATP into NAD+, a coenzyme used in many cellular reactions. This relationship makes NMN a focus of studies on NAD+ metabolism.
Small amounts of NMN have been reported in some plant foods, but measured levels vary and are not consistently quantified. Dietary contribution is generally considered minor compared with endogenous production. Food-matrix effects make accurate analysis difficult.
NMN stands for nicotinamide mononucleotide. It is a naturally occurring nucleotide and an intermediate in the cellular production of NAD+.
